School Information

Des Moines has a great number of great schools, colleges and universities in close proximity and offers its residents many choices when it comes to education. Des Moines has a great public school system that has 64 elementary schools, 33 middle schools and 15 high schools. Each school is unique in terms of teaching faculty, facilities and extra curricular activities, yet they all operate under the same curriculum and high standards set by the state of Iowa. No matter which school you choose to send your children to, or no matter which school district you are in you can rest assured that your child is getting the best possible education for a bright future. There are also over one hundred private schools in Des Moines, opening up the options even further for those parents that can afford to send their children to these prestigious educational institutions. Drake University is a unique institution that has all of the benefits of the larger more well known state universities yet has more intimacy and personalized teaching methods due to the low student to teacher ratio of 14 to one. The small size of Drake allows its students to get to know their professors closely and this allows them to act as mentors for students helping them to realize their academic and personal goals. Whether your child wants to have a Canadian trade mark firm of his or her own, or become a psychiatrist, having a close bond with talented professors is going to help them no matter what their future goals may be.

Drake offers over 70 programs to study, and students have the unique option of creating their own major by combining and tailoring their courses to their dreams. Drake is located in Des Moines, and has several partnerships with businesses and government to provide students with co-operative learning courses that allow them to experience life in the working world while still in school. Students can choose to work with a huge range of companies from the department of finance to car dealer supply companies. This program sends them off very well prepared upon graduation and instills confidence in these young Americans throughout their entire university career and beyond.
